Wainwrights climbed: Gowbarrow Fell
Distance: 4.5miles
Elevation: 1365ft
Our first Wainwright climbed together and a nice easy one to start off with. Just a short 4.5 mile route that included taking in Aira Force.
Prices at the National Trust car park are a little on the steep side so something to remember if you use this as a starting point for any walks.
As expected Aira Force was busy with people and the falls were quite empty after an usual dry patch but once we started climbing up alongside the river the number of people reduced and it was nice to start climbing up onto the fells.
The climb to Gowborrow Fell was relatively straight forward and easy but as usual with the Lake District the winds were pretty strong on the tops.
Once you leave the summit of Gowbarrow the return leg gives you spectacular views of Ullswater and the surrounding hills where you can sit on Memorial Seat and watch the Ullswater steamers go up and down Ullswater whilst admiring the views.
So that’s 1 down, just another 213 to go.
